A Morning That Turned Deadly
In a scene that has left the entire Ramnagar community shaken, a routine morning commute turned into a tragedy on Monday when a high-speed passenger bus mowed down six people near Dhangarhi Nala on National Highway-309. Heavy rain had swollen the nala, forcing vehicles to stop and people to wait patiently for the water level to drop.

Among those waiting were school teachers on their way to Harna — but instead of a day in the classroom, they met a horrific fate. Witnesses recall the horrifying moment the bus (UK 04 PA 0422) lost control, hurtling into pedestrians and five parked motorcycles, turning an ordinary roadside wait into chaos and carnage.
The Toll and the Victims
Two teachers died instantly. Within hours, two more succumbed to their injuries at Ramnagar Combined Hospital, taking the death toll to four.
The deceased have been identified as:

Surendra Singh Panwar (53), resident of Gangotri Vihar, Kaniya.

Virendra Sharma (42), resident of Manila Vihar, Chorpani.
Both were respected educators who made the daily journey from Ramnagar to Harna to teach.

Cause Under Investigation
Initial suspicion points to brake failure, though officials say the exact cause will be confirmed after a mechanical inspection. The motorcycles struck by the bus bore the numbers: UK 04K 1846, HP 24C 1860, UK 18H 9373, UK 04T 1590, and UK 04T 7031.
Tahsildar Manisha Markana confirmed that victims’ families have been informed and medical treatment is being prioritised. Kotwal Arun Kumar Saini stated that the bus has been seized, an FIR registered, and investigations are underway.
A Community in Shock
The deaths have sent ripples of grief across Ramnagar. Students and fellow teachers are grappling with the loss of mentors who shaped countless lives. The incident is a grim reminder of Uttarakhand’s recurring road tragedies, where dangerous roads, bad weather, and mechanical failures often combine with deadly results.
