The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for 13 August, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, including Nainital, Almora, and Bageshwar. In response, district administrations have extended the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centers to ensure student safety.

Schools and Anganwadi Centers Remain Closed for Safety

Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc-Nainital andNainital District Magistrate Vandana announced that all government, non-government, and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, along with all Anganwadi centers, will remain closed on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. The decision follows warnings of landslides, road blockages, waterlogging, and rising river levels, all of which pose significant risks to students and residents.

Almora and Bageshwar districts have also declared a holiday for the third consecutive day, reflecting the severity of the weather conditions.


Authorities on High Alert Amidst Escalating Risk

The district administration has instructed all relevant departments to remain fully alert and prepared for rapid response. Disaster management teams, road maintenance crews, and emergency services are on standby to tackle any urgent situations, including blocked roads, flash floods, and landslides.

Officials have appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides, and to stay informed about weather advisories.

The ongoing monsoon has intensified concerns across the region, with recent incidents of flash floods and heavy landslides disrupting connectivity and daily life. Many rural and hilly areas are at risk of further damage due to the predicted rainfall over the next few days.

The IMDтАЩs forecast indicates that several parts of Uttarakhand will continue to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall through mid-August. The red alert for Nainital on 13 August is followed by an orange alert in some areas on subsequent days, keeping the entire region under close watch.
