Diwali to Be Celebrated on October 21: Naina Devi Temple Confirms Auspicious Dates
Nainital | October 9, 2025 | The sacred Naina Devi Temple, the presiding deity of Nainital, has officially announced that the festival of Diwali–Mahalakshmi Puja will be celebrated on October 21, 2025. According to the temple priests and Hindu almanac calculations, this year’s festive cycle will begin with Dhanteras on October 18, followed by Narak Chaturdashi on October 19, Govardhan Puja on October 22, and Yama Dwitiya (Bhai Dooj) on October 23.
Temple authorities stated that all these five festivals — from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj — symbolize prosperity, purity, and the victory of light over darkness in the Sanatan Dharma tradition.
🌙 Amavasya and Planetary Alignments Favor October 21 Lakshmi Puja
According to astrological experts, the Amavasya Tithi (new moon phase) falls on both October 20 and 21, but the night of October 21 is considered more auspicious for the Lakshmi Puja, as it coincides with the Pradosh Kaal — the spiritually significant twilight period ideal for worship.
Priests of Naina Devi Temple also noted a rare and auspicious planetary conjunction this year: the Amavasya coincides with Mars (Mangal Graha), forming a Shubh Yoga (favorable combination) that is believed to enhance wealth, fortune, and material prosperity for devotees performing the Mahalakshmi Puja on this date.
🪔 Ritual Guidelines for the Festival
Temple priests advised that on Diwali, devotees should begin the rituals by bathing and adorning idols of Lord Ganesha made of clay or silver, dressing them in clean garments, and placing them at the sacred altar.
The traditional offerings (prasad) include puffed rice, sugar toys, stationery items (pen and ink pot), and Kubera’s symbolic worship — representing wealth and wisdom.
It is considered essential to perform Ganesh Puja before Mahalakshmi Puja, as no auspicious ceremony is deemed complete without invoking Lord Ganesha’s blessings.
The priests emphasized that worshipping Goddess Lakshmi alone may bring material wealth but could also foster ego and attachment; therefore, joint worship of Ganesha and Lakshmi ensures both prosperity and balance in one’s life.
🔯 Spiritual Significance of This Year’s Diwali
This year’s Diwali, falling under a favorable planetary alignment, is expected to bring renewed positivity, harmony, and abundance. Astrologers and devotees alike believe that performing Lakshmi Puja with devotion during Pradosh Kaal on October 21 will yield particularly auspicious results for households and businesses.
