Commemorative Envelopes Honor Academia


Navin Samachar, Nainital, October 11, 2025 (Nainital Latest News Today 11 October 2025)| In a proud moment for Nainital, the Indian Postal Department has released special commemorative postal envelopes featuring images of Kumaun University and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES). The unveiling took place at the state guesthouse during the Naini PAXS event, with State Minister Ajay Tamta as the chief guest.

They jointly released the envelopes, acknowledging the institutions’ contributions to education, research, and regional prestige.

Minister Tamta remarked that the envelopes symbolize the “rich academic tradition, cultural heritage, and social commitment” of both institutions. Last year, during the 125th anniversary of Nainital Raj Bhavan, a special commemorative postal stamp had been released — now complemented by these envelopes.

Kumaun University vice-chancellor Prof. Diwan Rawat and ARIES Director Dr. Naja expressed gratitude, calling this postal honor an elevated recognition for the university and scientific community in the state.

University dignitaries — including Prof. Nita Bora Sharma, Prof. Sanjay Pant, Prof. Lalit Tiwari, Prof. H.C.S. Bisht, Prof. Ritesh Sah, Registrar Dr. M.S. Mandwal, and many others — attended the event. All applauded the move as a meaningful step in projecting Nainital’s intellectual identity to the national stage.

Special Postal Cards & Activities Soon

Nainital Head Postmaster Chandan Bisht announced that on Sunday, during the Naini PAXS program, special postal postcards will be released. The event will also host essay writing and painting competitions for students. Designs expected to feature local landmarks like the Pashan Devi Temple are under review.


Mourning the Loss of Sister Adelaide, Former Manager of St. Mary’s

A somber note struck the city when Sister Adelaide, former manager of St. Mary’s Convent College, (Ramni), passed away at age 92 after struggling with complications from a stroke for ten days. A stalwart of over 70 years in service, Sister Adelaide embodied faith, selfless dedication, and love. Her departure has sent waves of grief throughout the school community.

In earlier decades, Sister Adelaide played a pivotal role in organizing annual sports drills, march-pasts, and disciplined training for students. She later served as manager and, in later years, tended to the school’s library. Last year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations of her service were marked with great honor.

Principal Sister Manjusha conveyed deep condolences and announced that her final rites will be held on Sunday at 3:30 pm.


KUTA Expresses Condolences on Two Deaths

The Kumaun University Teachers’ Association (KUTA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of two individuals. It mourned the death of Prof. Prabhat Mathpal’s mother, and also paid tribute to Wazid Bhai (61 years old) of Oak Lodge. KUTA leaders including Prof. Lalit Tiwari, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Prof. Neelu, Dr. Deepak Kumar, among others, extended heartfelt condolences to the families.


Legal Literacy Camp on International Girl Child Day

Marking International Girl Child Day, the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authority, Nainital, organized a legal literacy and awareness camp at Nishant School (National Shaheed Sainik Smarak Vidyapeeth).

The program, inaugurated by school principal Tara Bora, saw Senior Civil Judge (Senior Division) Parul Thapliyal address girls on their constitutional rights. She explained Articles 14–18 regarding equality before law, equal opportunity in public employment, abolition of untouchability, and prohibition of titles. The camp also covered domestic violence, child marriage, dowry law, adolescent safety, and POCSO Act 2012. Teachers and legal professionals including Tara Arya, Yashwant Kumar, Jitendra Bisht participated in the sessions, ensuring young girls gained clarity about their legal protections.


Sushil Kumar Appointed Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramnagar (Nainital Latest News Today 11 October 2025)

In administrative reshuffling, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prahlad Narayan Meena transferred Inspector Sushil Kumar, previously in charge at Banbhulpura, to Ramnagar, appointing him as the new Station House Officer (SHO). Local police leadership and citizen groups welcomed the change, calling it a matter of pride for Nainital district.
