📰 Bhimtal Woman Jumps Into Lake After Domestic Dispute, Rescued by Locals and Police
Nainital | In a dramatic incident in Bhimtal, a Nepal-origin married woman attempted suicide by jumping into Bhimtal Lake following a heated argument with her husband. Thanks to the quick response of local residents and police, her life was saved.
According to police reports, the woman had been living with her husband in Bhimtal for some time and was reportedly facing regular domestic quarrels, often triggered by her husband’s drinking habits. On Monday morning, after another altercation and alleged assault, she left home and jumped into the lake.
Alert locals immediately informed the police. Under the leadership of Station In-charge Sanjeet Rathore, the police team, assisted by residents, launched a swift rescue operation and successfully pulled her out.
Police clarified that the case was purely a domestic dispute, not a love affair. The woman’s son and daughter currently reside in Haldwani with their grandmother. She has been safely handed over to her family after counselling.
🏆 Kumaun University Student Arnava Tripathi Wins State-Level Debate Competition
Nainital | Arnava Tripathi, a BA fifth-semester student from Kumaun University’s DSB Campus, Nainital, secured first position and the title of Best Speaker at the State-Level Debate Competition 2025, organized at Doon University, Dehradun, as part of Right to Information Week celebrations. Tripathi impressed the jury with his logical reasoning, eloquent expression, and confident presentation, earning a ₹10,000 cash prize.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Diwan Rawat congratulated him, stating that such achievements highlight the institution’s commitment to fostering critical thinking, expression, and leadership among students.

💡 Kumaun University Hosts Online Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights
Nainital | The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of Kumaun University organized an online seminar titled “Basics of IPR: Protecting Your Innovations”. The session was led by Dr. Himanshu Goyal, Scientist at UCOST Dehradun, who discussed the fundamentals of innovation protection and the importance of awareness among academicians. Over 180 participants from various institutions across Uttarakhand joined the session.

After taking charge at the District Collectorate, he visited Naina Devi Temple to seek blessings and later chaired a review meeting with senior officers.

Officials are directed to hold gram-level chowpals (public hearings) to settle simple inheritance cases on the spot. If no dispute exists, transfers should be completed within 30 days under Section 33. In contested cases, they must escalate to tehsil-level hearings. A 20-day schedule has been set to begin awareness campaigns, and tehsils must ensure transparent, speedy resolution of non-contested cases.

⚖️ Bail Petition Denied for Murder Accused Dheeraj Nagarkoti (Nainital Roundup-Latest News for 14th October)
Sessions Judge Harish Kumar Goyal rejected the bail plea of Dheeraj Nagarkoti in a murder case filed at Bhimtal. On June 4, 2025, Surendra Bisht had lodged a complaint against Dheeraj and co-accused Kedar Singh for the death of Devendra Singh, who died from head injuries. Eyewitnesses alleged both accused attacked Devendra Singh with blows and kicked him. The accused were reportedly seen fleeing the scene on a motorcycle UK04M-5329.
On August 12, Dheeraj and Kedar were arrested along with the vehicle. The court, citing the severity of the offense and solid evidence, denied bail. Charges include sections under IPC and related provisions.
