Sherwood College, one of India’s most reputed educational institutions, has once again made Uttarakhand proud by securing the second position nationwide and first in the state in the co-educational residential school category. The ranking was conferred by the Education World National Survey 2025, recognizing excellence in academics, sports, extracurricular activities, discipline, and overall student development.
Principal Amandeep Sandhu credited the success to the collective efforts of the school community. “Education is the foundation for the holistic development of a person. Sherwood College remains committed to maintaining excellence in every sphere,” he said, expressing gratitude towards the teachers, students, and parents.

⚖️ DM Lalit Mohan Rayal Orders Total Ban on Illegal Liquor in Nainital District
Newly appointed District Magistrate (DM) Lalit Mohan Rayal issued strong directives to the Excise Department, enforcing a complete ban on the sale of illicit liquor across the district. The DM emphasized that no illegal liquor trade will be tolerated, instructing officials to carry out regular inspections and submit daily reports on enforcement activities.
He further cautioned government-licensed liquor outlets to avoid overcharging, warning that any complaint of overpricing or irregularities would invite immediate disciplinary action. The DM reiterated that any negligence damaging the image of the administration would not be overlooked.
In a courtesy meeting with Kumaon Commissioner and CM’s Secretary Deepak Rawat, DM Rayal discussed district development plans, tourism growth, disaster management strategies, and welfare programs. The Commissioner directed the DM to ensure swift implementation of state schemes and accelerate public service delivery.
⚖️ DM Orders Complete Ban on Illegal Liquor Sales
Newly appointed District Magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal has issued strict directives to the Excise Department to impose a complete prohibition on unauthorized liquor sales in the district. He warned that any violation would face immediate punitive action.
He especially cautioned that state-licensed liquor shops must avoid overcharging. Departmental officers have been instructed to conduct daily inspections and submit detailed reports. The DM emphasized that negligence by any officer or employee will be met with disciplinary consequences, citing reputational damage to governance if complaints are ignored.
🛒 Food-Adulteration Drive Intensified Ahead of Diwali
With the Diwali festival nearing, the DM also ordered intensified checks to curb food adulteration across the district. Teams were instructed to patrol markets, sweet shops, and dairy outlets, collecting samples of milk, paneer, khoya, and sweets for lab testing.
At the Quarav Checkpoint on the Almora border, about 20 kg of mawa and 50 kg of sweets were seized as suspicious, and samples were sent for analysis. Officials also conducted checks in markets such as Manrsa-Kakrigat, Suyalabadi, Gangoli, Chhada, and Khairna. Shopkeepers were instructed to maintain bills, ensure hygiene and staff health checks, and sell only verified goods.
💰 State Employees Thank Government for Diwali Bonus and DA Hike
Members of the State Employees Joint Council, Nainital Unit, expressed gratitude to the Uttarakhand government for announcing Dearness Allowance (DA) and festival bonuses ahead of Diwali. The council also welcomed the appointment of the new District Magistrate, expressing hope that he will address employees’ grievances with the same efficiency as public issues.
District President Aslam Ali and State Vice President Girjesh Kandpal stated that a delegation will soon meet the DM to discuss key employee concerns. The meeting, chaired by Bahadur Bisht, saw participation from several senior members, including Israr Beg, Bhupal Singh, Jagdish Bisht, Vivek Pal Singh, Pratap Manral, and others.
💸 Public School Staff Protest Over Four Months’ Unpaid Salaries
Teachers and support staff at St. Xavier Public School, Nainital expressed deep frustration in a meeting convened by the School Employees’ Union over the nonpayment of salaries for four months. Staff claimed that despite repeated requests, the school management has avoided any dialogue.
Under the leadership of Madan Singh Gaida, the union warned that unless salaries are released within a week, a protest will be held at the school’s main gate. The union also plans to submit memorandums to the District Magistrate and the Deputy Labor Commissioner if the issue is not resolved.

🎖️ NSS Selection Camp Held for Republic Day Volunteers
A one-day National Service Scheme (NSS) selection camp was conducted at DSA Ground under the aegis of Kumaun University, Nainital. NSS volunteers from affiliated colleges participated in interviews, cultural events, runs, and drills.
Observers from Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, as well as state coordinators and district officials like Prof. Jagmohan Negi, oversaw the selection. The chosen volunteers will train and then participate in the Delhi Republic Day camp. A total of 16 candidates from Uttarakhand are expected to be selected. The program was organized by Dr. Shivangi Chanyal, Prof. Lalit Tiwari, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Manoj Bafila, and Dr. Himani Jalal.
