Sister Manjusha, Principal of St. Mary’s Convent College, Nainital, met Indian Air Force Group Captain and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla during the All-India Catholic School Principals’ Conference held in Goa from October 8–10, 2025.

✍️ Prof. Shirish Maurya to Represent India at Kolkata International Poetry Festival

Adding to Nainital’s pride, Prof. Shirish Maurya, Head of the Hindi Department at Kumaun University, has been invited to represent India at the Chair Poetry Evenings – Kolkata International Poetry Festival 2025, to be held from November 28–30, 2025.

This prestigious festival is considered among the top two international poetry events worldwide, featuring 20 renowned poets from 12 countries.

Prof. Maurya, known for his sensitive portrayal of human emotion, social consciousness, and modern poetic expression, will present his works reflecting the depth of Hindi literature and Indian ethos. His poems will also be featured in the anthology “Chair Poetry Series 2025.”

Festival Director Sonnet Mondal noted that the event aims to “foster global dialogue and cultural harmony through poetry.” The festival will close with a symbolic “Poetry on the Cruise” session aboard the Ganges — celebrating the unifying power of words.

Maurya’s participation is being hailed as a moment of literary glory for Kumaun University and Uttarakhand, giving the state’s rich literary tradition a voice on the global stage.

UP Police Wins All-India Women’s Hockey Championship in Nainital

Nainital : Uttar Pradesh Police, Lucknow, emerged as the champions of the All-India 5-A-Side Women’s Hockey Tournament held at DSA Ground, Nainital. The event was organized under the aegis of Nainital Hockey Academy with the support of Aditya Birla Century Paper, Lalkuan and The Nainital Bank.

In the thrilling final match played on Friday, UP Police defeated Dehradun 6–4 to clinch the championship title.

The chief guest of the closing ceremony, Mr. Sushil Kumar Lal, Managing Director of The Nainital Bank, presented trophies and cash prizes to the winners. He highlighted the bank’s continued commitment to supporting education, sports, and social development initiatives as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

The winning team received a cash prize of ₹10,000 in memory of Late N.K. Arya, while the runners-up were awarded ₹5,000. Mamta Bhatt from Dehradun was declared the Best Player, and Roshni from Banaras was recognized as the Most Promising Player. Additionally, Galaxy Sports Group honored Gudiya from Kolkata and Ankita from Dehradun with mementos.

The matches were officiated by umpires Manjul Sanwal and Dr. Manoj Bisht, with Sanjay Gupta, Deepak Sah, Girish Bhatt, and Rajesh Sah serving as technical advisors. The event’s announcements were handled by Prof. Lalit Tiwari and Harish Rana.

Among the dignitaries present were Mukesh Joshi ‘Mantu’ (President, Nainital Hockey Academy), Manoj Sah (President, Shriram Sewak Sabha), Jagdish Bawadi, Pradeep Jethi, Vimal Chaudhary, Rajendra Sah, Rajendra Singh, Harshit Pant, Bhuvan Bisht, Mohan Sah, Anand Bisht, Ajay Sah, Bhagwan Kunwar, Vinod Sah, Prakash Vidyarthi, Rajendra Bisht, Arvind Padiyar, Vishal Verma, Santosh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Devendra Sah, and Girish Joshi, among others.


🕉️ Valmiki Jayanti Celebrated with Devotion and Cultural Fervor

Nainital also witnessed the grand conclusion of the Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti celebrations at the Valmiki Temple in Tallital.

The event featured devotional songs, cultural performances, and dance presentations that emphasized unity and social harmony.

Prominent local leaders, including Congress leader Kundan Bisht, Councilors Sapna Bisht and Sheetal Katiyar, and several others, attended the ceremony. They urged citizens to follow the ideals of Maharishi Valmiki, the revered author of the Ramayana, and to uphold peace and brotherhood.

Temple Committee President Dheeraj Katiyar thanked all participants and volunteers, calling the event a “beautiful reflection of community spirit and devotion.”

The celebration was marked by enthusiasm and inclusivity, reinforcing Valmiki’s timeless message of equality and righteousness.


🎓 IGNOU Admission Deadline Approaching — Last Chance for July 2025 Session

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced October 15, 2025, as the final date for admissions to the July 2025 academic session.

According to Dr. Anil Kumar Dimri, Senior Regional Director, and Prof. Lalit Tiwari, Coordinator at DSB Campus Nainital, students can apply online through IGNOU’s official website.

Eligible candidates, once enrolled, may also apply for Government of India scholarships via the National Scholarship Portal.

Prof. Tiwari advised students to “complete their admission process without delay to avoid missing this academic opportunity.”
